New Release: Georgia Ruth – Fossil Scale

  • July 13, 2016

Georgia Ruth - Fossil Scale

Welsh singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Georgia Ruth releases her new album Fossil Scale, on October 7, 2016.

The record is the follow up to 2013’s Welsh Music Prize winning Week Of Pines - a feat Georgia never contemplated she’d achieve for her critically acclaimed, bilingual debut album. The record prompted the Guardian to tip her as ‘One of the British folk discoveries of the year’, with Georgia going on to be twice nominated in the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, alongside radio support across Radio 1 and 6Music. UK live dates to support the release of Fossil Scale are expected to be announced shortly.

Fossil Scale was written in Caernarfon, a town in North Wales defined by its space and tranquil landscape that Georgia, at the time, called home. The ancient surroundings of the town, its body of water and the neighbouring Snowdonia mountains, came to exert as strong a bearing on Fossil Scale as the hours of Beck, Radiohead and Bowie albums that tracked this writing period. Though it wasn’t until Georgia stumbled upon a news article about a mysterious ‘mutant-fish’ with reptilian head & fossilised scales discovered by Russian fishermen, that she began to quantify her own life in relation to her immutable surroundings. This fish became something of a representation of those constants, as Georgia began to explore the detachment from them that modern life had brought about.

New Release: Heidi Talbot – Here We Go 1, 2, 3

  • July 5, 2016

Heidi Talbot - Here We Go 1, 2, 3Heidi Talbot's fifth solo LP plays to the tune of quiet skips and giant leaps. It crosses the ages, jumps into the unknown, traverses oceans and musical styles – from folk, through Americana, to classic pop, and back again. The Co Kildare singer / songwriter, who now resides in Scotland with her musical partner and husband John McCusker, is joined by a host of musicians and co-writers on the album, including Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow), Duke Special, Adam Holmes and Boo Hewerdine.

"The title, Here We Go, 1, 2, 3, takes that idea of jumping, whether it's into new musical territories, new bands, a new studio, new label, new family – new everything, really," says Talbot, the recipient of 2008's Indie Acoustic award and multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations. "It's about taking a chance. I've written eight out of the 10 songs on this album in some context, whether it's the lyrics or the music – that's the most I've ever contributed. And it's quite personal. A lot has happened since my last album. We've built a recording studio, and started a label, and I've got a different band. I've had a second daughter. I've lost my mum. So, it feels like – okay, get ready to jump..." Also: we all need someone to catch us.

New Release: Oysterband – This House Will Stand: The Best of Oysterband 1998 – 2015

  • March 17, 2016

Oysterband - This House Will Stand'THIS HOUSE WILL STAND: The Best of Oysterband 1998 – 2015' is a 2-CD, 29 track collection comprising 15 tracks chosen by the band from their last 6 studio albums (including ‘Ragged Kingdom’, their multi-award-winning reunion collaboration with June Tabor) and 14 unreleased tracks, rare B-sides, live cuts, demos and alternative versions of other Oysterband songs.

Oysterband has been one of the most consistently creative folk and rock bands of the past 38 years. Since their origins in 1977-1978 as the Oyster Ceilidh Band and their subsequent growth and constant development over the decades (sometimes wearing a more rock music mantle, sometimes a more folk/trad one), their musical vision has always burned bright. Following the critical and commercial success of 'Ragged Kingdom' (2011) and 'Diamonds On The Water' (2014), the band has been working on other projects including John Jones 'Never Stop Moving', story-telling tours by founder members Jones, Ian Telfer (fiddle) and Alan Prosser (guitar) as Oysters3, and the rebirth of their annual Big Session Festival in Buxton. This core membership of the band has been instrumental in the continuity of the Oysterband sound throughout these permutations and changes.

New Release: Bellowhead Live: The Farewell Tour

  • February 8, 2016

Bellowhead Live: The Farewell TourDeluxe triple disc (2CD + DVD) of previously unreleased live audio and film from the first of 2 farewell tours by 11 piece British folk band, Bellowhead, recorded in November 2015. 52 tracks in total!

Formed in 2004, the band scarcely imagined that one day they'd be headlining major UK and international festivals and selling out tours of major concert halls, or that they'd sell in excess of 250,000 albums, including the highest selling independently released traditional album of all time ('Hedonism,' Navigator Records, 2010) and the highest charting independently-released UK folk album of all time too, ('Broadside,' Navigator Records, 2012). Bellowhead are the proud recipients of two silver discs and have won a total of eight BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The band's last studio album 'Revival' (2014) entered the UK Album Charts at no.12 and led to three BBC Radio 2 play-listed singles, as well as appearances on mainstream TV.

Early in 2015, lead singer Jon Boden decided to step down from the band and the rest of Bellowhead felt they didn't want to continue without him. "The shows always finish on a high, and so should we." (Bellowhead). The two audio CDs includes 29 tracks recorded during the November 2015 tour whilst the DVD features the band's full concert from Leicester's De Montford Hall, 19th November 2015.
