Watch: Songs of Separation – London Lights

  • December 17, 2015

Songs of SeparationListen to London Lights, the beautifully seasonal song from the upcoming Songs of Separation album.

Recorded in the fairy-tale setting of the Isle of Eigg (in the Scottish Inner Hebrides) and set in the context of a post-referendum world, ‘Songs of Separation’ is not simply a beautiful collection of traditional and self-penned songs, but also aims to prompt new thinking about the issue of separation as it occurs in all our lives.

Hazel Askew says about the song
“When thinking about different interpretations of the word ‘separation’, I remembered this song and the image of the outcast woman gazing at the distant city lights. It seemed like such a poignant depiction of homelessness and the gap between the rich and poor, which is unfortunately still so relevant today, particularly in London where poverty and wealth sit so closely together.”

The Songs of Separation album is out on the 29th January 2016 and available to pre-order now from Propermusic, Amazon, iTunes and all good record stores.
